Michael Stopford, Executive Vice President and Senior Global Corporate Strategist
Michael is a key strategic resource for Powell Tate’s global corporate clients, focusing primarily on corporate reputation and international public affairs. Michael has led corporate reputation, strategic communications and issue management for multinational companies such as Coca-Cola, Syngenta International and ExxonMobil. His expertise in the corporate sphere also covers stakeholder engagement, CSR, crisis communications and executive positioning, as well as forging mutually beneficial public/private partnerships.
Before joining Powell Tate Michael headed Strategic Communications for NATO in Brussels, serving as the Alliance’s Dep. Assistant Secretary General and also heading the Science for Peace and Security program. He introduced new communications technologies to the Alliance and developed close ties between NATO and non-NATO partners on shared research and technology activities.
In previous assignments Michael worked for the United Nations, heading the UN Washington Office and serving as Chief of Staff for the UN in Geneva, and led media and public relations for the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation. His work covered sustainable development, human rights and electoral assistance programs.
At Powell Tate Michael’s clients include the leadership of major multinationals and comprise various industry sectors from pharmaceuticals to consumer goods, defense, agriculture, financial sector and energy. He also heads the company’s international higher education practice, advising on institutional identity, reputation and global communications for leading universities worldwide. He is fluent in German, French, Spanish and Italian.
